Closing Time

Closing Time Security should come at closing to walk workers to their cars. Anyone can and should call security for an escort · Make closing announcements a half hour before closing (at this time ask that all laptops and reserve materials be returned to circulation desk), 15 minutes before closing and at closing time (there are no speakers in side computer labs) · Check back computer labs for patrons, push in all chairs and turn off the lights and lock the door · Check booths and tables for books and journals · Pick up all trash from tables and booths · Push in chairs · Turn off lights in the booths · In Group Study Rooms open doors and check for patrons and turn off lights · Put books on carts near the circulation desk · If needed, collect laptop computers and lock them in the cassette cabinet. · Any personal items forgotten by patrons are to be put in the lost and found area Wallets, phone or other valuables should be given to Public Safety (7-7777) If Public Safety is unable to pick the item up it should be locked in the circulation desk top drawer. · Turn off copiers · Turn off computer at front desk · Fill out FWS timesheet and get it initialed (see page 3) · Turn out all lights · Lock doors and confirm that both are set by pulling on them · Put key in book return as far back as you reach.

Circulation Procedure for Reserve Resources

*Board Reviews*	Take patron ID card Have Patron fill out Board Review Form Go to computer Click on “charge” Scan in patron’s barcode and return ID Scan the barcode inside the back cover of the book Desensitize book (IMPORTANT: Do not desensitize CDs and videos) Confirm the patron has correctly filled out the purple form and all information is readable including the email address. Fill out due date slip. Remove and attach orange card to form. Leave form and card on Circulation Staff’s desk.	Go to computer Select “discharge” from menu Scan in barcode from inside cover. Have the patron pay any fine. Sensitize book. Look for orange card in Board Review box. Remove card from box and place in card pocket. Place on Return Cart.

Reserve Resources and Policies See below for information on checking out or discharging specific Reference materials

Board Review Collection

The Board Review collection is located on the main library floor near the circulation desk. Board Review items have a pink sticker labeled "7 Day Loan. Patrons can borrow up to two Board Review items. Patrons can check out Board Reviews for one week.

Textbook Reserve Collection

The Reserve collection is located behind the circulation desk. The Reserve collection items have a sticker. There are three parts to the Reserve Collection: Medical has a reserve sticker; Nursing has a reserve sticker and a blue dot; Physical Therapy has a reserve sticker and small red dot. During the hours the library is open patrons can borrow items in the Reserve Collection for in-house use only. The loan period for Reserve items is two hours with the option to renew for an additional two hours unless another patron has requested the item. Users may borrow a maximum of two items at a time. Borrowers must surrender a bar-coded ID badge when taking materials. Patrons may borrow duplicate copies of Reserve items overnight. One copy of the Reserve item must remain in the library for in-house use. Patrons can check out available materials during the last half hour that the library is open. Borrowers must present a bar-coded ID badge. Patrons can reserve overnight loans in advance.

Laptop Computers

The loan period for laptop items is two hours with the option to renew for an additional two hours unless patron has requested the item. Borrowers must surrender a bar-coded ID badge when requesting laptops and must fill out a blue “Wireless Laptop Equipment Checkout” form. When the laptop is returned, put the blue form in the white box on the cabinet.

Group Study Rooms (GSR)

The Library has four (4) GSR. The loan period for GSR is two hours with the option to renew for an additional two hours unless another patron requests the room. Patron must request the GSR at the Circulation Desk and must leave their name. GSR can be reserved in advanced. Only faculty and students can use GSRs.

Tape Players, CD Players and Headphones

The loan period is two hours with the option to renew for an additional two hours unless another patron requests the item. Borrowers must surrender a bar-coded ID badge when borrowing any of these items.

White Board Markers

Each Group Study Room (GSR) is equipped with a White Board. The Circulation Desk has White Board markers. Borrowers must surrender a bar-coded ID badge when borrowing markers and an eraser.

Opening Procedures

Turn on all the lights in the library
Turn on all copy room copy machines (switches are on the side of the machine).
Turn on copier and printer in the work room.
Change due date stamps. (Board Review and General Collection)
Log onto Voyager (somcirc – circx)
Turn the page of the Reserve Room Notebook and move the red clip marked "TODAY".
Go to the drop box closet to check for returned books and door key.
Check items returned for Overnight Reserve items.
Staff Circulation desk.

Federal Work Study Timesheet

Time Sheets are located in a green folder in the center file drawer of the Front Desk, labeled “Workstudy.”
Time Sheets are to be filled out each day worked, time arrived and departure. Total the hours per day and at the end of the week, for the two weeks. Have supervisor initial each day’s shift at both arrival and departure. If the student works extended hours make sure to get the supervisor’s initials before they leave for the day. Make sure you have signed the sheet at the bottom and included your "A" number.
Students cannot exceed twenty (20) hours per week while classes are in session. Students may work up to 35 hours per week when classes are not in session.
FWS students must take one half hour break if they work five (5) consecutive hours in one day. Breaks must be taken no later than one half hour before closing.
Do not go to the cashier. Checks are picked up at the Library on payday or sent to your bank via Automatic Deposit. The schedules of “Pay Days” dates are in the green folder. The student should check the schedule so that they will know when the timesheets are due, or when it’s pay day.

Miscellaneous

The Library Circulation Manual is located at the circulation desk if you need further information and phone numbers.

Where things are

Print Stations There are two Print Stations located in the library for patron use. One is on the large cabinet, near the computer island, in the main library; the other is located in the Microcomputer lab. Patrons can purchase a print/copy card in the copy room for $1.00. Money may also be added to a card using the same machine. How Print Stations work Patrons can print from all computers to either Print Station. When they click or choose print from the computer program they will be asked for a username and password. Then they move to a Print Station and put their print card into the reader. A screen will pop up that allows them to choose their print job. They will be asked to enter their password to print the job. è Only the computers in the Computer Lab have Microsoft Office programs installed. Up to Date Computer and Printer There is only one computer available with the Up to Date program. The Up to Date computer and printer are located on the end cap of the center island of computers on the main library floor. Printing is free for this computer. Bone Boxes There are several bone boxes for students to use kept in the Reserve area next to where the laptops are stored. Students must surrender their id to use the bone boxes. Scribe Boxes Scribe boxes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students are kept in the Reserve. Students must surrender their ID to use the boxes.

Where things are kept at the Circulation desk

Top Drawer Money used to make change Lost and found bin for important things-this is where keys, wallets and ID are stored if not given to Public Safety (other lost and found items are held in a box on the shelving unit by the door to the workspace.) 2nd Drawer Key for the top drawer Brown binder for circulation statistics and photo copy numbers Reserve card holder New disks ($2.00) Photo-copy cards 3rd Drawer Overnight reserve forms CDs ($2.00) and sleeves Paper for Copiers and Blank tapes Extra Paper is kept in the center island next to the lecture cassettes. This paper is for library use only and may not be used for upstairs computer lab. Extra paper for the second floor computer lab is located on the self across from the tape players. Blank tapes, if available, are located under the circulation desk

Microcomputer lab

Only patrons with UMDNJ and Kennedy Id’s may use the Microcomputer Lab. The computers in the lab are the only ones with Microsoft Office programs.

Special Projects

Work other than normal duties will be given from time to time.

The Voyager system shuts down 12:00 am every night. For all material returned after system is shut down– Please place on Circulation Supervisor's desk with a note on the book marked “after 11pm Return”. The book will be checked in the next day. While you have the person on the phone, push the “LINK” button, dial 6 and the last 4 numbers of the extension to which you are transferring, let it ring once and then hang up (example: “LINK” 6 - 6800).

Check out Books (Charge)

· Click on the Charge icon · Scan patrons ID with wand · Scan barcode (on inside back cover of book) · Stamp the book with date · De-sensitize book on the machine · See special instructions for reserve and board review check out.

Check in Books (Discharge)

· Click on the Discharge icon · Scan barcode on book · Sensitize book on the machine · Put book on cart to be re-shelved (do not put Reserve books on carts).

Enforce Library Rules of Conduct.

No food is permitted in the Library. Bottled water and beverages in travel mugs or reusable sport bottles only are permissible. Glass bottles, cans, styroform cups and other disposable containers are not acceptable.
